Electroencephalography (EEG) is an electrophysical method of recording the electrical activity of your brain. By measuring what are commonly known as brainwaves, we can measure your cognitive functioning. We use this information to create and track a more effective treatment for ADHD, learning disabilities, or mental health challenges.
In traditional use, EEG works by placing electrodes along your scalp that will track and monitor your brain’s activity. EEG allows doctors to determine if there are any abnormal patterns or irregularities that can occur in the brain as a result of seizures or other brain disorders.
In our practice, we use Quantitative EEG (qEEG) Brain Mapping as part of our neurofeedback and therapeutic sessions. qEEG is an extension of EEG; it is the analysis of EEG results for your therapy program.
What qEEG brain mapping can tell us
Brain mapping can be used to evaluate your brain function. Even more exciting, it allows us to track changes in various functions due to neurofeedback training or other therapies.
This technology allows us to literally see the progress and improvement that is occurring in your brain as a result of neurofeedback and the therapeutic sessions that we do together.
qEEG and Neurofeedback
Neurofeedback is a process that allows us to exercise the brain in a targeted way to improve its function. It is a way of observing moment to moment what activity is happening in your brain and then working to modify that activity through specific tasks in order to create changes in your life.
qEEG and the use of modern software gives us the ability to actually see the changes that are taking place in your brain during cognitive processing tasks. Over time, we can track your progress, see the changes that have occurred, and create a treatment plan that is based on what works best for your brain.
